Haiti-DR Crisis: Dominicans say border is open for business

The Minister of Industry and Commerce, Víctor Ito Bisonó, has announced that the Dominican side of the border with Haiti is open for trade. However, the Dominican government is eagerly anticipating a reciprocal response from the Haitian government.

Bisonó clarified that the fate of Haitian goods crossing the border is beyond their control. Nevertheless, he highlighted that in recent weeks, there has been a partial resumption of trade between the two nations.

The government’s primary objective is to explore alternative markets for products previously destined for Haiti, with the aim of boosting exports to other countries in the region.

In response to concerns raised by business leaders, Bisonó assured that ongoing communication is being maintained with them to promptly address any potential issues that may arise.
